Jenna Ortega's Decade-Long Dream: Actress Gears Up for Directorial Debut!

In addition to becoming one of Hollywood's most sought-after young performers, Jenna Ortega is also pursuing a career in directing. The Wednesday breakout star revealed in a recent media talk that she's at last prepared to develop a script. For almost a decade, she has been growing and keeping it close.

 

Jenna Ortega disclosed that she came up with the idea for the project while she was a young girl just starting out in the business. But now she's comfortable enough to start turning it into a reality. “I have a script that I’ve known that I was going to make for almost 10 years,” she told. “It’s weird because it’s something that I thought of when I was younger and when I first started out in this field, and it’s only now that I’m actually starting to take the steps to get it made.”

 

Ortega is actively assembling the logistical and creative components in her head, even if she is still in the early stages of the process. “I’m just putting the puzzle pieces together in my head. So I think I needed a few years of that under my belt to understand the order of doing things,” she clarified.

 

Although Ortega envisions herself in the movie, directing is her ultimate goal. “That’s probably the main thing that I want to do. I see that for myself,” she told. “I just feel that’s the way my brain wants to work and think, and that’s how I even view my acting sometimes.”

 

Ortega has taken on creative leadership duties even though she hasn't yet directed a project. She is executive producing the next season of Wednesday and Death of a Unicorn. Alongside The Weeknd and Barry Keoghan, she will also executive produce and feature in Edward Schults' thriller Hurry Up Tomorrow.

 

Regarding her long-term aspirations as a creator, Ortega stressed that she wants to work behind the camera full-time. “I don’t want to be in the things that I create in the future, but starting out, because I’ve created more leverage for myself with a name as an actor, I may as well use that as a stepping stone.”
